Ecuador is famous for its colorful indigenous markets. The most famous of them, Otavalo, explodes into a sprawling smorgasbord of exotic colors, sounds, and smells every Saturday, as thousands of local artists and crafts people bargain with an international mix of travelers.
Ecuador, especially the Sierra region, is filled with other markets selling everything from fresh fruit to rain-sticks, in addition to the most well know Otavalo market; focusing on clothing and gifts, with ponchos and pipes and many other bags and clothes that are beautifully colored and traditionally made by same the hands that sell them
