There
are
two
principle
vehicle
access
routes
to
the
area.
The
first
is
a
side
road
originating
from
the
Ambato-Guaranda
highway
in
Cununyacu
and
crossing
the
infrastructure
of
the
South-American
Camelid
Reintroduction
Program,
eventually
leading
to
the
refuge
on
the
slopes
of
Volcano
Chimborazo.
From
there
onwards,
the
route
is
asphalted
crossing
most
of
the
sector
until
reaching
San
Juan
,
on
the
other
side
of
the
Reserve,
eventually
joining
up
with
the
Riobamba-Guamote
highway.
This
route,
which
presents
the
visitor
with
alternative
access
to
the
Reserve,
is
in
good
condition
and
more
frequently
used.
Additionally,
there
are
other
pedestrian
pathways
and
trails
within
the
Reserve.
The
majority
originate
in
the
Urbina
and
Mocha
sectors,
adjacent
to
the
Reserve
beside
the
Pan-American
highway
.
