Lake
Limoncacha
This
lake
is
of
great
tourist
and
scientific
interest
due
to
its
diverse
range
of
flora
and
fauna.
It’s
the
perfect
place
to
observe
aquatic
birds,
fish
and
insects
and
also
alligators,
turtles
among
the
dandies
populating
the
area.
Close
to
Limoncacha
there
is
a
sign-posted
INEFAN
pathway,
accessible
by
boat,
which
leads
into
the
jungle
where
it
is
possible
to
observe
particular
species
of
flora
and
fauna.
It’s
also
possible
to
navigate
the
river
with
the
guidance
of
the
inhabitants
their
rowing
boats.
River
Napo
’s
Basin
This
lake
network
measures
approximately
679
hectares
in
total.
The
islands
and
riverbanks
offer
various
recreational
activities
and
provide
the
perfect
place
to
observe
nature
in
action.
River
Capucuy
Flora
and
fauna
in
its
purest
form
can
be
observed
here,
it’s
also
possible
to
see
parrots,
and
occasionally
guacamayos
on
the
outskirts
of
Lake
Limoncacha
.
Laguna
Negra
(
Black
Lake
)
Laguna
Negra
is
situated
close
to
Lake
Limoncacha
towards
Capucuy.
Access
is
almost
impossible
as
it
is
covered
by
extremely
dense
vegetation.
It
is
believed
that
there
is
a
large
number
of
anacondas
inhabiting
the
sector
and
that
the
area
is
a
favourable
place
for
alligators
to
spawn.
For
this
reason,
there
are
many
legends
circulating
about
monsters,
giant
octopuses
and
huge
animals
inhabiting
the
area.
Limoncacha
Limoncacha
is
situated
some
500
metres
away
from
the
lake.
This
is
the
location
of
the
Reserve’s
Administrative
Centre.
Generally
speaking,
there
is
not
a
great
deal
of
tourist
infrastructure,
however,
with
prior
agreement
of
the
community,
it’s
possible
to
comfortably
accommodate
small
groups
of
visitors.
Due
to
the
abundance
of
multicultural
elements
this
town
has
to
offer,
it
makes
for
an
interesting
place,
especially
during
public
holidays.
Pompeya
Archaeological
Museum
(CICAME)
The
Ecuadorian
Amazon
Centre
of
Cultural
Research
is
in
charge
of
the
museums
upkeep,
which
is
situated
on
an
ancient
settlement
established
by
Capuchin
missionaries
in
Pompeya.
It
houses
archaeological
remains
of
ancient
Amazonian
cultures
and
also
offers
an
anthropological
insight
into
the
zone,
providing
a
range
of
information
and
research
carried
out
on
these
civilizations.
SEK
University
Research
Station
The
recently-established
SEK
University
’s
Research
Station
is
situated
in
the
Reserve’s
old
Administrative
Centre
in
Limoncacha.
The
Research
Centre
focuses
on
the
impact
the
petrol
extraction
industry
has
had
on
the
area.
