Perhaps
the
only
access
route
to
the
Park
is
from
the
road
which
originates
in
Guagua
Sumaco
from
the
Hollin-Loreto
road
and
leads
to
the
country
house
of
Pacto
Sumaco
near
to
the
Park’s
borders.
From
there,
continue
along
a
pathway
which
is
in
relatively
bad
condition,
to
arrive
at
the
Pacto
Sumaco
lake
and
Volcano
Sumaco’s
crater.
It’s
the
only
route
which
actually
leads
into
the
Park’s
interior
allowing
the
visitor
to
appreciate
the
volcano’s
unique
beauty.
Almost
always
seen
emerging
through
the
fog
above
the
Amazonian
plain,
the
volcano
constitutes
the
attraction
easiest
to
visit,
in
spite
of
the
fact
that
it
takes
almost
two
days
to
reach
its
peak,
weather
permitting
of
course.
There
are
a
further
two
pathways
leading
to
the
Park’s
borders.
The
first
goes
from
Diaz
de
Pineda
(towards
the
northeast
from
the
Interoceanic
Highway
)
where
Andean
white-spectacled
bears
are
easily
spotted.
The
second
goes
from
Linares
,
further
south,
arriving
at
the
outskirts
of
Cerro
Pan
de
Azucar,
an
elevation
providing
a
beautiful
view
of
the
surrounding
landscape.
Two
more
routes
exist
which
get
close
to
the
area
but
end
before
reaching
the
actual
borders.
The
first
begins
in
Loreto
and
goes
towards
Volcano
Sumaco,
the
second
is
situated
close
to
Guagua
Sumaco
and
heads
southbound
towards
the
Galeras
peaks.
