 MERA

Named alter the writer Juan Leon Mera from Ambato, Mera is mainly an oil town.

Places to visit

Many tourists come to visit the town’s semi-Olympic swimming pool, the recreational complex and to swim in the Alpayacu River. Other attractions further afield include Mera’s viewpoint, River Pastaza’s beaches, River Chico, Mangayacu, Kilo and Tigre Waterfalls, the walk to Pindo, the 24 de Mayo caves and the Conejunda bridge.

In the town centre the Jacinto Davila Museum offers a variety of ancient stones and objects from traditional cultures. In addition, you’ll find sections dedicated to archaeology, ceramics, crafts, minerals, ethnology, agricultural production, sculpture and colonial paintings.
