 PUYO / GETTING THERE

Bus
The Terminal Terrestre (bus terminal) is on the west side of town along the Shell-Mera-Banos road, though after 6pm most buses go into the centre. Buses leave for the main Oriente towns as well as Guayaquil, Ambato [US$3
*], 3 1/2 hrs, Quito [US$7*], 7 hrs, Riobamba [US$3*], 5 1/2 hrs, Tena [US$2.50*], 3 1/2 hrs, Banos [US$2*], 2 1/2 hrs, Macas [US$5*], 6 1/2 hrs.
If the Banos road is closed, buses going west have to go through Tena.

Air
Flights from Quito and small airstrips in the jungle go through the airport, Shell
, named after the oil company that built it. Shell is about 10km [six miles] west of Puyo near Mera on the road to Banos. The Ecuadorean Air Force [FAE] flies all around the Oriente everyday, but getting on a flight isn't easy. There are about three private companies, usually chartered by lodges for their guests. It's best to contact operators in Quito, or OPIP in Puyo, for details and prices.
