 TENA / GETTING THERE

Flight destinations are limited to Coca and Shell [Puyo], though a planned route to Quito may be in the pipeline. The best bet is to go to the airstrip at the north end of town and inquire there. The Terminal Terrestre bus terminal is just southeast of town on the road to Puerto Napo. Bus destinations include Baeza, Quito, Ambato, Lago Agrio, Coca [a gruelling, seven-hour, bone-shaking ride] and Puyo. Nearly all bus journeys within the Oriente are uncomfortable and unreliable!

By bus
There is a frequent bus service to Quito [US$5.50 *], 5 hrs. To Banos [US$4*], 5 hrs. To Riobamba [US$5.50*], 6 hrs. To Baeza, 2 1/2 hrs. To Ambato [US$6*] 5 1/2 hrs. To Coca [US$7*] 6 1/2 hrs. To Lago Agrio with Jumandy (US$9*) 8-9hrs. To Puyo, 4 hrs. To Archidona (US$0.50*), 15-20 minutes. To Misahualli [US$1*], 50 minutes.

By air
There are frequent flights to Shell-Mera. Short flights are available through the jungle, but for one person only. Reservations can be made through Rios Ecuador.
