 MORONA-SANTIAGO PROVINCE / TOURISM

CANTON MORONA
Mirador “El tigrillo”, Sangay National Park, Maizal, Yuquipa Ecological cabins, Archaeological Complex Alto Upano, Cuevas de Chiquichiquentza (caves), Recreational Cabins “Winia Sunka”, Chinimp’s waterfalls, Finca Vacacional “Proano” and the Shuar and Achuar communities in the town of Macas.  You can also visit the Municipal Archaeological Museum and observe orchids.

The lakes Lagunas de Sardinayaqu located in Sangay National Park are perfect for adventurers.  .

Volcano Sangay
This volcano is among the world's most active measuring 5230 high and towering over the province's towns.The volcano is situated at 30km from the town of Macas.  During the evenings displays of volcanic energy can be observed and in the mornings the smoke coming from its crater.

CANTON SUCUA
Sports complex las Piscinas.

River Upano runs from north to south until joining the river Paute in the canton of Santiago, constituting the cantons most important river.   Its tributaries are Tutunangoza, Arapicos, Seipa and others originating in the cordillera of Cutucu.

River Miriumi: serves the public baths used by the canton's inhabitants and visitors.

CANTON HUAMBOYA
This canton is inhabited by the Shuars.

Their customs: Diet consisting of fruit and plants, yucca chicha and fish.
Natives paint their faces and decorate their bodies with feathers.

CANTON PALORA
The canton of Palora has various tourist sites such as:

Llushyn a river which is navigated by motor-canoes [Pailon de llushyn], Numbayme, Rio Palora , Rio Amulado, access to the parish of Cumanda and the sector corresponding Sangay National Park.

CANTON SANTIAGO DE MENDEZ

Various hotels, restaurants and tourist sites such as: beaches: Playas de Rio Negro, Playas de Nucantai, Playas de Chuza, Playas del Rio Yukiankas, rivers Rio Pescado andl Rio Paute, the lake and los Tayos caves , Lake Pitiu and rivers Santiago and Yaupi.

CANTON SAN JUAN BOSCO

There are important natural landscapes and zones rich in biodiversity which are still being exploited. 


El Cerro Pan de Azucar hill, caves Las Cuevas de Wakambeis, Colegio “Amazonas” farm.

CANTON LIMON INDANZA
Chorrera de Santa Rosa.
Cueva De Los Tayos

Caves of significant scientific interest for the calceous rock which grows on the interior rock faces.  The name Los Tayos refers to a type of bird which inhabits the caves and is eaten by the indigenous.

Santa Rosa de Mamanguy Thermal Springs
Mamanguy thermal springs are located at 35km from the General Plaza.

CANTON LOGRONO
Towards the south east of the canton:

Caves Cuevas de Logrono, surrounded by vegetation and the banks of river Upano.

Towards the north the convergence of rivers Tutanangoza and Upano.

CANTON GUALAQUIZA
The parish of Bomboiza for its cultivation of citrus fruits.

Caves Cuevas de la Dolorosa, archaeological remains in the parish of Gualaquiza.

FESTIVALS
La Fiesta de la Purisima, in Macas, takes place on: 18 of February and 15th of August. There are also civic celebrations such as the 29th May, commemorating the foundation of Macas.  There is also a twice-yearly Amazonian Integration fair.

TRADITIONAL FOODS
Ayampaco, prepared with beef, chicken or fish and wrapped in plantain leaf.
Meats: guanta, guatusa, armadillo, animals native to the region.
Chicha de yuca, a ceremonial drink with yucca.
Guayusa infusion, has healing properties.
