Tourists
visiting the
area are taken
aback by the
beautiful
scenery offered
by the mountains,
rivers, wildlife
and vegetation
adorning the
province.
The area extends
from the depressions
along the
cordillera
to the exit
of the canton
of Banos and
the large
plain of river
Pastaza.
In
the town of
El Puyo there
are recreational
parks next
to the river
along with
a sports complex
and public
baths. The
weekly markets
are also used
to demonstrate
customs and
traditions
to visitors.
Private firms
manage the
rest of the
tourist infrastructure
in terms of
hotels, restaurants
and other
services.
Rivers, roads
and some air
transportation
connects the
province with
cities and
towns along
the sierra
and in the
Amazon. The
town of Puyo
is situated
at 100km from
Ambato , 110km
from Riobamba,
79km from
Tena, 129km
from Macas
and 239km
from Quito.
FESTIVALS
Ecuadorian
Amazon Day
on 12th February
to commemorate
the discovery
of river Amazonas
by Francisco
de Orellana
in 1542 is
the most popular
festival in
the region.

FOOD
Mayto
prepared
with meat
and plantain
wrapped in
bijoa leaf;
various meats
and tripe;
drinks include
chicha
de yuca
made with
yucca and
platano
made with
plantain.
