In
Agato you'll
find special
demonstrations
of traditional
weaving taking
place, three
kilometres
[two
miles]
east of Peguche.
At the Tahuantinsuyo
Weaving Workshop,
Ecuador's
most famous
weaver Miguel
Andrango demonstrates
backstrap
loom techniques
using handspun
wool and natural
dyes. His
products are
more expensive
than those
made on the
upright loom
and coloured
with chemical
dyes. They
aren't usually
for sale at
the Otavalo
market but
can be bought
directly from
his workshop.
Getting
there
There are
buses
to Agato from
Otavalo
and a taxi
only costs
about US$2*.
