Two hours Northwest of Ibarra, don't miss the Complejo de Turismo Ecologico Chachimbiro - clean, hot mineral thermal baths and swimming pools. Managed by Fundacion Cordillera, the complex is part of a project to develop environmental education in the area. There's also a medical centre, organic gardens, comfortable cabins and restaurants.

Getting there

Take the Expreso Turismo cooperative [on Flores street] in Ibarra. It's best to leave early in the morning.
