Giron
is historically
important
as it was
the site of
the Tarqui
battle when
the region
was invaded
by Peru in
1829. In the
town you can
visit the
house where
the treaty
was signed
to end the
war with Peru,
before the
signing of
the official
treaty in
Guayaquil.
One of the
region's most
important
plants is
cultivated
here: the
"achira"
is used for
floral decorations
and is now
cultivated
on an industrial
level.
