Just above Tixan towards Guamote, there's a sign to Osogoche 32km away. This small town has some good trails for hiking across the paramo and although quite blustery, it also has gorgeous views of the Sangay volcano, best viewed November till March. If you go camping in the area, you'll be able to see the lifestyle and homes of the Indians in their colourful costumes who live in grass-made huts called "Chozas".
