East of Ambato, past Salasaca on the route to Banos is a 400 year old village called Pelileo. The town is quite modern today, and has been dubbed the jeans capital of Ecuador due to the huge variety of jeans being sold there. Pelileo is the main market town for the surrounding areas of Salasaca.

Places to visit

Pelileo's Plaza has beautiful views of the Tungurahua volcano.

The town's festivities are held on the 22nd of July.

There is a frequent bus service from Banos and Ambato [20 minutes].
