The
capital is
the tourist
and transport
hub of the
country and
the base from
which to make
various excursions
to the highlands,
the rainforest,
the pacific
coast
or the Galapagos
Islands.
It's obviously
important
that your
hotel is in
a relatively
safe area,
which is why
most of those
recommended
here are in
the new town.
The majority
are in the
Mariscal quarter
because this
is the most
popular place
for tourists,
where the
best shops,
restaurants
and hotels
are located.
Cafe
Cultura
(www.cafecultura.com)
is a delightful
mix of English
tradition
and contemporary
trend. An
inner city
retreat, the
hotel is hemmed
by a beautiful
garden with
secluded seating
areas for
relaxing or
watching the
resident hummingbirds,
doves and
peacocks.
Rooms are
individually
decorated
and the restaurant
serves delicious
international
dishes.
As
for the old
town, there
aren't many
places to
go after 9pm
and walking
back at night
alone is not
recommended.
There are
many hotels
that offer
excellent
value for
money. However
prices tend
to vary from
published
rates according
to season
and your personal
negotiation
skills. Whether
or not the
12% tax and
10% service
charge are
included in
the price
of the room
should be
established
before making
reservations.
