Geography.
Bolivar is
located on
the western
slopes of
the Andes
Backbone,
close to the
geographic
centre of
the country
and dominated
by the Andean
giant, Volcano
Chimborazo.
The
land is hilly
and mountainous
crossing the
Chimbo mountain
chain which
comes from
the western
plateau of
Chimborazo
at an altitude
of 4,000 metres.
The western
zone is lower
and enjoys
a subtropical
climate.
Bolivar
occupies the
hollow of
River Chimbo,
a western
hollow between
the interandean
regions.
A large southwestern
chain of hills
begins in
Chiquinac
at an altitude
of 4,000 metres
and there
is a lack
of vegetation.
Los
Rios
(Rivers)
The hydrographic
system is
determined
by River Chimbo
which is formed
by river Guaranda
and Salinas,
which join
together towards
the south
of the town
of Guaranda.
River
Chimbo later
joins River
Chamchan to
form River
Yauachi, running
to Guayas.
Other smaller
rivers include
Simiatug,
Saquibi, San
Lorenzo, el
Huaico, Caluma,
Telimbela,
Pallatanga,
Santiago and
Cristal.
Lakes
Towards
the northeast
of the parish
of Guanujo
lakes Puricocha
and Patococha,
tourist attractions,
are located.
.
Demography.
The average
growth rate
of the population
is low and
the rate in
the countryside
is actually
decreasing.
This is thanks
to the emmigration
of the rural
population
to larger
cities such
as Quito or
Guayaquil
in search
for better
work opportunities.
79
per cent of
Bolivar's
population
can be found
in the countryside.
A high percentage
of the population
don't have
access to
sufficient
electricity
and water
supplies.
Climate.
The province
has a varied
climate, ranging
from the chilliness
of the paramos
to the heat
of the subtropical
zones with
temperatures
between 22
and 25 degress
centigrade.
