The status of the
airport across the estuary at
San Vicente is still uncertain, so check with tour operators or travel agencies for the latest flights.
All the
buses for destinations south, north and east gather around the Malecon, close to the Hotel Bahia. There are plenty of services. Departing buses never go to the center.

Road. There are three main roads to the highlands: Via
Chone and
El Carmen to
Santo Domingo. The second road is via
San Clemente and
Rocafuerte to
Pichincha,
Velasco lbarra and on to
Quevedo. Also you may go via
Calceta, which has nice landscapes but is not recommended by bus, only if traveling in a
jeep, then it is recommended. The final route is via
Pedernales, which is very quick.
